Okpilak Thaw
Okpilak River | Arctic National Wildlife Refuge | Iñupiat and Gwich’in Land
Second Edition of 50 Signed Giclée prints (25 of each size)
25% of each sale donated to Sovereign Iñupiat for a Living Arctic.
It feels like the right time to bring back this print, which was initially released in 2021 as a fundraiser and call to action for Defend the Sacred Alaska and their efforts to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas development.
The second edition of Okpilak Thaw has a renewed call to help protect Arctic Alaskan communities and environments:
On March 13 formal approval was granted for the Willow Project - an $8 billion plan to extract 600 million barrels of oil from Arctic Alaska. This is not only a step backwards in addressing the climate crisis, but also poses health, environmental, and food security threats to nearby Indigenous communities who actively oppose the development.
It’s as important as ever to remain engaged in this issue, as lawsuits are being filed, new action items are being announced, and the individuals and organizations that are in this fight for the long haul need our support.
“While this project may have been approved, the effort to divest from fossil fuels and invest in renewable energy continues. We will not give up protecting the Arctic today, tomorrow, or ever.” - Sovereign Iñupiat for a Living Arctic
Painted, Printed, and Packaged in Alaska.
